Injury/Illness - Left Ankle Injury Management (2026-10-25, MEM@SAC). Prior reporting (2026-10-25): Edey posted eight points (4-6 FG, 0-1 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal over 22 minutes during Friday's 111-108 victory over the Warriors. The third-year center came up one bucket short of his first double-double of the season. Edey saw his workload managed for a second straight game after playing only 11 regular-season games in 2025-26 due to ankle surgery, but he's still averaging 9.5 boards a game even when limited to minutes in the low 20s. Once the Grizzlies begin to let his loose, the 24-year-old should start dominating the glass again.
The young center has shown encouraging development during his first two seasons and still projects to receive significant frontcourt minutes. However, Memphis now possesses additional depth in the frontcourt, creating some uncertainty regarding lineup combinations. Injuries have limited Edey to 66 regular-season appearances through two years, so his health is a far bigger concern.
Since he's already been in rehab mode and was ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery March 3 to address ongoing discomfort and bone stress in his left ankle, Edey opted to get his aching elbow taken care of with another procedure. Edey is expected to make a full recovery from both the ankle surgery and elbow procedure prior to the start of training camp. Before being shut down in mid-December due to the ankle issue, Edey looked to be in line for a second-year breakout, as he had converted at a 63.3 percent clip from the field and posted averages of 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 1.1 assists and 0.6 steals in 25.8 minutes per game over his 11 appearances. The Grizzlies view the 7-foot-3 big man as a key building block and will plan for him to settle back in as their starting center in 2026-27 so long as he's able to stay healthy.
