Understanding Hits Prop Lines
0.5
Standard Line
(At least 1 hit)
1.5
Multi-Hit Line
(2+ hits required)
2.5
Big Game Line
(3+ hits needed)
The line represents the sportsbook's expected hit total. Over odds show the price for the player to exceed that number, while under odds are for staying below. The most common hits line is 0.5 (will the player record at least one hit).
Batting Average & Matchup Splits
A hitter with a .300+ batting average against the opposing pitcher's handedness is a strong over candidate on the 0.5 line. Check both the player's AVG splits (vs LHP and vs RHP) and the opposing pitcher's BAA to gauge how likely a hit is.
When to Bet MLB Hits Props
Wait for lineup confirmation — a player who drops from the 2-hole to the 8-hole loses plate appearances and hit opportunities. Target hitters facing pitchers with high BAA or elevated walk rates, as more baserunners create more at-bats. Compare lines across sportsbooks to find the best number.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How are MLB hits projections calculated?
- Our hits projections use a player's batting average splits by opposing pitcher handedness (AVG vs. LHP and AVG vs. RHP), weighted by the number of projected plate appearances based on batting order position. We adjust for the opposing pitcher's batting average against (BAA) and BABIP tendencies to produce a final projected hit total.
- What batting average should I look for when betting hits props?
- Target hitters with a .280+ batting average against the opposing pitcher's handedness. League-average batting average is around .250, so anything above .280 is well above average. High-contact hitters (.300+) with low strikeout rates are the best over candidates on the 0.5 hits line.
- What is the most common hits prop line?
- The most common MLB hits prop line is 0.5 — this is a simple over/under on whether the player records at least one hit. The 1.5 line (2+ hits) is also popular but carries higher odds since multi-hit games occur less frequently. Lines of 2.5+ are rare and typically reserved for elite contact hitters.
