fdOBA (FanDuel On-Base Average) is an advanced baseball stat created by FTA that measures how many FanDuel fantasy points a hitter generates per plate appearance. Unlike traditional OBP — which treats a walk the same as a home run — fdOBA weights each outcome by its actual FanDuel scoring value.
This makes fdOBA the most direct measure of a hitter's scoring efficiency on FanDuel. A player with a high fdOBA consistently produces more fantasy points per opportunity, regardless of batting average or traditional stats.
How fdOBA is Calculated
Each plate appearance outcome is weighted by its FanDuel point value, then divided by total plate appearances. FTA calculates fdOBA against today's specific opposing pitcher, split by handedness (vs LHP or vs RHP), so the same hitter will have different fdOBA values depending on the matchup.
A minimum of 30 plate appearances is required for a reliable fdOBA calculation. Players below this threshold fall back to prior-season splits or a league-average default of 1.25.
How FTA Uses fdOBA in Projections
fdOBA is a core input to FTA's FanDuel MLB projection model. For each hitter on today's slate, we calculate their fdOBA against the specific opposing starter, adjust for platoon matchup, then blend with bullpen projections based on the starter's expected innings pitched.
The leaderboard above ranks hitters by their projected fdOBA for today's slate. Because FanDuel scores walks and singles equally, hitters with high walk rates get a bigger boost in fdOBA than in traditional stats — surfacing value plays that DraftKings-focused models miss.
fdOBA also feeds into our projected FanDuel fantasy points, park factor adjustments, and ceiling/floor calculations in the MLB DFS Optimizer.
FanDuel MLB Scoring System Explained
FanDuel MLB scoring awards hitters points for every plate appearance outcome, but with a key difference from DraftKings: walks are worth the same as singles (both 3 pts). This makes plate discipline a genuine scoring asset on FanDuel. Extra-base hits are also weighted more heavily: doubles (6 pts), triples (9 pts), home runs (12 pts).
Combined with higher RBI (3.5 pts), runs scored (3.2 pts), and stolen bases (6 pts), FanDuel's scoring system rewards a specific hitter archetype: patient hitters with power upside. That's why FTA built fdOBA — a stat that measures each hitter's scoring efficiency using FanDuel's actual point values.
FanDuel MLB Hitter Point Values
Every hitting outcome on FanDuel has a specific point value. Here's the full breakdown:
A solo home run is worth 18.7 total points (12 HR + 3.2 run + 3.5 RBI). A grand slam is worth 29.2 points. Walks (3 pts) are worth the same as singles — this is the biggest difference from DraftKings.
How FTA Uses FanDuel Scoring in MLB Projections
FTA's FanDuel MLB projections are built around FanDuel's specific scoring system. We created fdOBA (FanDuel On-Base Average) — a stat that weights each plate appearance outcome by its FD point value, then calculates it against today's specific opposing pitcher and platoon matchup.
The leaderboard above ranks hitters by their projected fdOBA for today's slate. Because FanDuel scores walks and singles equally, hitters with high walk rates get a bigger boost in fdOBA than in traditional stats — surfacing value plays that DraftKings-focused models miss.
fdOBA is a core input to our FanDuel projection model, helping estimate how many FanDuel fantasy points each hitter will generate. Combined with park factors, weather adjustments, and opposing pitcher metrics, fdOBA drives our FanDuel-specific projections.

What Stats Matter Most for FanDuel MLB?
Because FanDuel equally values walks and singles, the stats that matter most are walk rate, ISO (Isolated Power), and hard-hit rate. A patient hitter with power upside is the ideal FanDuel archetype — they generate floor from walks and ceiling from extra-base hits.
Platoon matchups amplify these stats significantly. A left-handed hitter with a 14% walk rate facing a right-handed pitcher will typically have a much higher fdOBA than against a lefty.
Data Source & Methodology
FanDuel scoring values and projections are current as of the 2026 MLB season. fdOBA values are calculated using batting statistics from the MLB Stats API and Baseball Savant, split by pitcher handedness (vs LHP and vs RHP). Projections are updated daily for each game's specific matchup.
