NBA DFS Efficiency Value Rankings Explained

Our NBA efficiency value rankings help daily fantasy basketball players identify the best value plays on today's DraftKings and FanDuel main slates. By combining traditional efficiency metrics with salary data, you can find players who are producing well above their price tag — the key to building winning DFS lineups.

What is NBA Efficiency (EFF)?

NBA Efficiency (EFF) is an all-in-one statistic that measures a player's overall statistical contribution per game. It combines positive contributions — points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, field goals made, and free throws made — and subtracts negative ones: turnovers, missed field goals, and missed free throws. A higher EFF indicates a more productive overall performance.

EFF = (PTS + AST + REB + STL + BLK + FGM + FTM) − (TO + FGA + FTA)

DraftKings & FanDuel Salary

Each player's DFS salary is pulled from today's main slate on the selected site (DraftKings or FanDuel). Toggle between sites to compare pricing differences. Only players on the current main slate are shown, so you're always looking at actionable data for tonight's contests.

EFF Value (EFF VAL) — Finding Value Plays

EFF VAL = EFF ÷ (Salary ÷ $1,000)

This is the core metric for identifying DFS value. It measures how much efficiency you get per $1,000 of salary. A player with a high EFF VAL is producing well above what their salary suggests — these are the value plays that let you fit premium stars elsewhere in your lineup.

Compare EFF VAL across DraftKings and FanDuel to spot pricing inefficiencies between sites.

Help Value (HV) — Non-Scoring Contributions

HV = REB + AST + STL + BLK − TO

Help Value isolates a player's non-scoring contributions per game. Players who rack up rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks without turning the ball over provide a high fantasy floor.

High HV players are especially valuable in cash games where consistency matters more than ceiling.

Productivity (PROD) — Per-Minute Efficiency

PROD = (PTS + HV) ÷ MIN

Productivity measures total contribution per minute played. Players with high PROD ratings who are expected to see increased minutes — due to injuries, blowouts, or rotation changes — are prime DFS targets because their efficiency scales with opportunity.

How to Use These Rankings for NBA DFS

Sort by EFF VAL to find the best value plays relative to salary. Use the EFF window dropdown to check recent trends — a player with high L3 efficiency who was recently repriced lower is a strong value target. Filter by position to find value at each roster slot, and compare DraftKings vs FanDuel pricing to identify the best site-specific plays. Pair high EFF VAL value plays with premium stars to build balanced lineups that maximize your salary cap.

Understanding EFF Windows

L1

Last game only

L3

3-game trend

L5

Short-term trend

L10

Medium-term trend

Season

Full season baseline

A player with a high L3 but lower Season EFF is on a hot streak worth targeting in DFS. Conversely, a player with strong Season numbers but a low L1 may be a buy-low opportunity if the recent dip is due to matchup rather than injury.

Data Source & Methodology

Player statistics are sourced from the BallDontLie API and updated daily throughout the 2025-26 NBA season. Salaries are pulled from today's DraftKings and FanDuel main classic slates. EFF, EFF VAL, HV, and PROD are calculated using the formulas described above across five rolling windows (L1, L3, L5, L10, and Season) to provide both recency and stability in the rankings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is NBA Efficiency (EFF)?
NBA Efficiency (EFF) measures a player's overall statistical contribution per game. The formula is: EFF = (PTS + AST + REB + STL + BLK + FGM + FTM) - (TO + FGA + FTA). It combines positive box score stats and subtracts negative ones to produce a single per-game rating.
How do you calculate NBA DFS efficiency value?
EFF VAL = EFF / (Salary / $1,000). This measures how much efficiency a player produces per $1,000 of DFS salary on DraftKings or FanDuel. Higher values indicate better value plays — players producing above what their price tag suggests.
What is Help Value (HV) in basketball?
Help Value (HV) = Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers. It isolates a player's non-scoring contributions per game, showing how much they contribute beyond just putting up points. High HV players provide a strong fantasy floor.
What is Productivity (PROD) in NBA DFS?
Productivity (PROD) = (Points + Help Value) / Minutes. It measures total contribution per minute played. A value of 1.00 means one positive stat per minute on average. Players with high PROD who see increased minutes are prime DFS targets.
What do the L1, L3, L5, L10 and Season efficiency windows mean?
L1 is the last game played, L3 averages the last 3 games, L5 the last 5, and L10 the last 10. Season uses full-season averages. L3 (default) balances recency with sample size and is best for spotting hot streaks relevant to today's DFS slate.
How do I find the best NBA DFS value plays today?
Sort by EFF VAL descending to find players with the highest efficiency per salary dollar. Use the EFF window dropdown to spot recent trends, filter by position to find value at each roster slot, and compare DraftKings vs FanDuel pricing to identify site-specific bargains.
