MLB Picks Today
Projections are algorithmically generated. If anything looks off, let us know in Discord.
FTA's projection algorithm builds per-player run projections from today's confirmed lineups, then compares them to sportsbook lines. The model factors in wOBA and ISO splits vs pitcher handedness, park factors, weather, batting order position, and bullpen quality to project runs scored per team. Over/Under picks fire when our projected game total diverges from the posted line. Moneyline picks require our projected runs to favor one team by a meaningful margin — the implied ML odds are derived from Pythagorean win expectation. Player prop picks surface when our per-player stat projections (Ks, hits, total bases) have a significant edge over the sportsbook line.
Every pick starts from today's confirmed lineup. We project runs scored per player using wOBA/ISO splits, park factors, and weather, then sum them to get a team total. Picks only fire when our projection meaningfully disagrees with the sportsbook line.

How FTA Generates MLB Picks
FTA builds per-player projections for every hitter in today's confirmed lineup. Each projection uses wOBA and ISO splits vs the opposing pitcher's handedness, park factors for power and runs, weather conditions (wind, temperature, humidity), batting order position (PA estimates, RBI/run opportunities). These individual projections are summed to produce a team run total for each game.
How Picks Are Selected
Over/Under: Our projected game total is compared to the sportsbook line. If the difference exceeds 0.3 runs, we flag it as a pick. Moneyline: When one team's projected runs meaningfully exceed the other, we calculate an implied moneyline using Pythagorean win expectation (R^1.83 formula) and surface the pick with our implied odds. Player Props: Per-player stat projections (strikeouts, hits, total bases) are compared to sportsbook lines — picks fire when the edge is 0.5+ units.
Projection Inputs
Sabermetrics: wOBA, ISO, wRC+, K%, BB%, DKOBA, SLG splits vs L/R pitching. Matchup: Opposing pitcher xFIP, SIERA, wOBA allowed by handedness. Environment: Park factor (power + runs), wind direction/speed, temperature, humidity. Game context: Batting order position, projected IP, bullpen quality.
MLB Best Bets FAQ
All MLB picks today update as lineups are confirmed. Projections recalculate when a lineup changes — a scratched starter or late lineup swap will shift the projected runs and may add, remove, or change picks. High confidence means a large gap between our projection and the line.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How are today's MLB picks generated?
- Our MLB picks are generated daily using team wOBA splits vs opposing pitcher handedness, starting pitcher quality metrics (xFIP, SIERA, wOBA allowed), park factors, and last 14 days of team performance. Moneyline value plays surface when a team's offensive profile outperforms the opposing starter's splits. Over/Under picks compare each team's runs per game to the posted total.
- What is the MLB run line in baseball betting?
- The MLB run line is baseball's version of a point spread, typically set at +/-1.5 runs. The favorite gives 1.5 runs (must win by 2 or more) while the underdog gets 1.5 runs (can lose by 1 or win outright). Run line favorites have lower payouts than moneyline favorites, making underdogs attractive on the run line when they're competitive teams.
- How often are MLB best bets updated?
- MLB picks are updated daily by 11am ET once starting pitchers and lineups are confirmed. We regenerate picks whenever new lineup or pitching data becomes available. All picks are cleared and reset each night — picks shown are always for today's games only.
