Understanding Hits Prop Lines

The line represents the sportsbook's expected hit total. Over odds show the price for the player to exceed that number, while under odds are for staying below. The most common hits line is 0.5 (will the player record at least one hit).
Batting Average & Matchup Splits
A hitter with a .300+ batting average against the opposing pitcher's handedness is a strong over candidate on the 0.5 line. Check both the player's AVG splits (vs LHP and vs RHP) and the opposing pitcher's BAA to gauge how likely a hit is.
When to Bet MLB Hits Props
Wait for lineup confirmation — a player who drops from the 2-hole to the 8-hole loses plate appearances and hit opportunities. Target hitters facing pitchers with high BAA or elevated walk rates, as more baserunners create more at-bats. Compare lines across sportsbooks to find the best number.
