Round the Bases (MLB DraftKings Picks) | 05/22/19

Well last night started off shaky with Turnbull getting knocked around by the Marlins and playing Verlander ended up costing me, even with having Juan Soto and some Yankees. That is my third time in the last 17 days missing the cash line so I can’t be upset. Instead will go full steam ahead into tonight’s 10 game slate to get back on track. There isn’t any major weather concerns tonight, some windy conditions and summer like temps will provide some help to bats tonight but no rain looks to be on the table. It is very important to check into our FTA Discord Chat each night as some of my plays here might change as lineups start coming out. Check out our new A.C.E. Pitchers

Max Scherzer, WAS ($11,100)

We got three top shelf aces going tonight and smack dab in the middle is Max Scherzer. He will see the Mets tonight who have a 23.7% K Rate and a .143 ISO over the last month against RHP. You get a $900 discount off of Cole although playing both might be the way to go tonight. Max will most likely see six RHB and this season he has a 1.8 xFIP, 36.8% K Rate and a 48% GB Rate against righties. The wind is blowing in which makes this even better as New York is already a pitchers park. Max has a 2.9 SIERA and even though he is the underdog tonight he still has a 3.4 IRTA.

RHP Gerrit Cole ($12,000) is pricey tonight but might be well worth the tag against the Chicago White Sox. Verlander destroyed them last night and now they get Cole. Talk about a rough 2 days for Chicago bats. Cole has a slate low 3.1 IRTA tied with Degrom tonight and has a 2.3 xFIP with a 38% K Rate this year. Cole also has a 16% SwStr% with a 2.5 SIERA. As long as the right value opens up I don’t see any reason of not pitching Cole and Max together tonight in cash. RHP Jacob DeGrom ($10,500) is the cheapest of the three aces tonight but might end up being my gpp pivot of off either Max or Cole. Degrom has been shaky as of late but still has a 2.6 xFIP with a 32% K Rate against RHB and should see seven of them tonight. The Nationals getting Turner and Rendon back is a big help for them tonight but we can’t discount Degrom because he could easily be the highest scoring pitcher on the slate. Washington this year has a 25% K Rate against RHP which is top 10 in the league.

Infielders

Brian Anderson, MIA (3B/OF, $3100)

The Marlins will face LHP Daniel Norris and the Detroit Tigers tonight. This is a night where we need value and Anderson fits that bill. He had a huge game last night with a home run and a double but we can’t expect that again. Over his last 30 AB’s against LHP he has a 35% HH Rate and will most likely hit in the top four. Norris this season has a 4.9 xFIP, 40% HH Rate and only a 16% K Rate against RHB. He also has a 4.8 SIERA this year so Anderson looks to have the right ingredients of a strong value tonight at just $3.1K. When you are fishing this low you can’t be greedy, so if he manages to get us 2 hits tonight awesome, anything more than that we celebrate.

Rhys Hoskins, PHI (1B, $4100)

DraftKings raised the prices on Philly for last nights game at Wrigley with the wind blowing in and it being cold at the park. Tonight they dropped their prices on a night where it will be warm with a strong wind straight out to left field. I’m confused on that thought process. Rhys Hoskins at $4.1K tonight is a joke and will be in my core for cash games. Over Hoskins L30 (Last 30 AB’s) he has a .364 wOBA, .266 ISO and a 49% HH Rate against LHP. He will take a crack at the ageless Cole Hamels who is having a solid start to 2019. Hamels has a 3.65 xFIP and a 39% HH Rate against RHB this year and also a 53% GB Rate which could help him. If Hoskins can get one in the air though it won’t be hard to leave the park. Vegas still don’t have a line on this game but I am expecting both teams to be around five runs for an IRT. Hoskins is my #DFSHomeRunCall.

Others: J. Segura, S. Castro, R. Tellez, M. Muncy, A. Frazier, A. Rizzo, J. Villar, J. Schoop, M. Carpenter

Outfielders:

Niko Goodrum, DET (1B/OF, $3500)

Just like the Anderson blurb, Niko is a cheap value that should lead off for DET against RHP Jose Urena and the Miami Marlins. There isn’t much honestly that stands out about Niko except for his cheap tag and leading off. He does have a 41% HH Rate which is intriguing coming into tonight and Urena dating back to last season against LHB has a 4.8 xFIP and a 42% HH Rate. We need the value tonight and this is another good spot to find it. The best part about Anderson and Goodrum is they are both multi position eligible.

Kris Bryant, CHC (3B/OF, $5400)

Before you say $5.4 is to expensive for Bryant here me out. It is going to be warm with the wind blowing strong out to left tonight at Wrigley which screams play the hitters here. Yes we can get Philly at cheap prices but Hamels has the ability to keep them on the ground. Bryant and the Cubs will face LHP Cole Irvin who is only making his third start in the majors. Steamer has Irvin projected for a 5.1 xFIP and these conditions against a strong Cubs lineup could spell disaster for the kid. Bryant is red hot right now also and over his L30 against LHP he has a .466 wOBA, .392 ISO, 198 WRC+ and a 45% HH Rate. This isn’t the same Bryant we seen at the start of the year. Instead of making a mechanical adjustment he switched to the AXE bat that George Springer is using and from the looks of Bryant and Springer’s seasons right now, more players should be making that change. Hoskins is my home run call of the night but Bryant is my #DFSDoubleDongCall of the night. I won’t be shocked to see the Cubs push an IRT of 6 tonight.
