Last night was a good example of why it is important to get pitching correct as I cashed safely with having no home runs on a night that was filled with them. Strasburg gave up some runs and didn’t get the win but had eight strikeouts to help his case and Jose Quintana was spectacular again pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts and allowing no runs. Yesterday’s article had Brandon Drury highlighted as a salary relief play and he was not in the lineup. I switched my salary relief to Eric Sogard at $3200 and he had three hits, one for a double, 2 runs and a stolen base for 20 fantasy points. Trout had a down night but was chalky enough that it didn’t hurt. It is very important to check into chat each night as some of my plays here might change as lineups start coming out. Starting today, I will start posting my previous nights cash line for a reference of how I went about my build for the night. Just a reminder it is a cash lineup and not a gpp.
- Stephen Strasburg, WAS ($10,300) = 17.9
- Brandon Drury, TOR ($2900) = DNP
- Jose Altuve, HOU ($4800) = 5
- Mike Trout, LAA ($5700) = 3
- Hunter Dozier, KC ($3600) = 2
Tonight we get a seven game main slate on DraftKings with the Toronto/Minnesota game being the only one with weather concerns. Right now it don’t look good as there is thunderstorms in the forecast for most of the night. We get Texas against Matt Harvey with a game total of 11 right now as well. Make sure to join into chat for more on the weather situation in Minnesota and more core picks for tonight.
Cole Hamels, CHC ($9400)
Cole Hamels is my top pitcher on the slate and that says a lot about where this slate is at for pitching. He is the most expensive pitcher but at the same time your not paying $11K for him. He has the lowest IRTA at 3.5 tonight and a career 3.56 xFIP against RHB. Miami will once again bring out a lineup of nine RHB like they did last night against Quintana, which didn’t work out to well for them. Prado and Alfaro seem to be the only threats tonight as Castro has an average WRC+ against LHP in his last 30 AB’s this season. The rest of the projected line has a WRC+ lower than 80 and the park upgrade for Hamels will only help his cause even more. Cole is my SP1 tonight.
Ji-Man Choi, TB (1B, $3700)
Choi and the Rays get RHP David Hess and the O’s tonight. Dating back to last season Hess has given up a .343 wOBA and a 5.5 xFIP and even though over Hess’s career he has given up over 2 HR/9 to LHB he still has a 1.4 HR/9 to RHB. Choi going back to last year has a .373 wOBA and a 139 WRC+ against RHP and in his last 30 AB’s this year he has a 40% HH Rate. I don’t see an IRT yet for TB but I will assume it will be north of 4.5 tonight.
Alex Bregman, HOU (3B, $4100)
.374 wOBA, 144 WRC+, 32% HH Rate over the last 30 AB’s for Bregman against RHP and tonight gets RHP Frankie Montas and the Oakland A’s. Yes it is a pitchers park but I really don’t think Bregman cares as he showed last night with a grand slam. Bregman don’t have to go yard to pay off his tag either as he can a double or triple just as fast as he can hit a home run and he also has SB potential as well. He has a ton of hitters above and below him in the lineup to give him RBI and run chances as well. Sub $4K seems way to low tonight for Bregman and our A.C.E. Projection System agrees with me.
Others: F. Freeman, Y. Diaz, J. Villar, J. Baez, A. Rizzo
Brandon Belt, SF (1B/OF, $3900)
Belt and the Giants get RHP Jeremy Hellickson and the Washington Nationals tonight in Washington. Belt is starting to get things going in 2019 as over his last 30 AB’s against RHP he has a .364 wOBA, .288 ISO, 124 WRC+, and a 45% HH Rate. A.C.E. has Belt as the top rated TruFV OF on tonight’s slate which makes perfect since with him being under $4k. Hellickson has a poor 4.5 xFIP against LHB dating back to last season and Belt gets a huge park upgrade by being in Washington tonight.
Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (OF, $4500)
If your a regular to Round the Bases then you know by now that I like to attack RHP Matt Harvey. Last season Harvey gave up almost 2 HR/9 to LHB with a 4.5 xFIP and a 43% FB Rate. That won’t hold up to well in the heat of Texas tonight. Over Choo’s last 30 AB’s he has a .418 wOBA, 163 WRC+ and this is not a typo, 58% HH Rate against RHP. I will have two or three Rangers in my cash line tonight most likely and plenty of stacks in gpp.
