Free MLB DFS FanDuel GPP Advice

This was a crazy first weekend for MLB DFS as I was able to cash the early slate Saturday thanks to a 13% owned Wilson Ramos. At just 3.2K he scored 20 FPts to sneak me into the green. The main slate Saturday and Sunday were both garbage for me. We knew going into Saturday night that the pitching was horrendous and it showed. I got a combined 5.80 FPts from Eduardo Rodriguez and Felix Pena, won’t come close to cash when that happens. I couldn’t get on the right Yankees all weekend and all I needed yesterday to cash was 1 more hit as Brett Gardner came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with 2 on and 2 out only to get pinch hit for Troy Tulowitzki who struck out to end the game. Had the right plays, they just didn’t come through. We have still cashed in 4 out of 6 slates to start the year and look to make it 5 of 7 tonight. Make sure you join us in chat as we fully break down the slate and the other MLB analyst as well as myself list our core plays for both cash games and tournaments. Check out our new A.C.E. Projection System as well to help with building your winning lineups. You can also follow me on twitter @DRockDFS.

April kicks-off with 9 games on the main slate tonight and once again there is some very interesting pitching options. The Houston Astros are in Texas where 51 runs were scored in the opening series between the Cubs and Rangers. You are going to want to be in our discord chat tonight for a better run down of the pitchers on the slate as a bunch of top priced options tonight could see less than 6 innings.

Pitcher

Steven Matz, NYM ($8300)

Pitching is going to take some thought tonight as there are a number of options who could only see 5 or less innings even if they are having a solid game. The Mets and LHP Steven Matz takes on the Miami Marlins in Miami tonight. Matz has the second lowest IRTA on the slate at 3.47 and is a -135 favorite. Matz struggled in 2018 but had a solid ending to the season, posting a 2.44 ERA over his final 8 starts. In 2018 he averaged 9.3 K/9 to RHB, 2 more than his K/9 to LHB and will face a possible all RHB Marlins lineup tonight. If he is pitching solid we aren’t going to see him get yanked after 5, which we confidently can’t say about some of the other higher priced pitchers tonight.

Infielders

Justin Turner, LAD (3B, $4200)

The Dodgers start a 3 game series tonight against the San Francisco Giants and LHP Drew Pomeranz. The Dodgers off to a fast start in 2019 racking up 42 runs in 4 games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Turner was actually quiet in the series only getting 4 hits, all singles, and 3 walks and 5 RBI’s. This is a good spot for Turner to get going, in 2018 he had a .433 wOBA and a .244 ISO against LHP. The Dodgers have the third highest IRT on the slate at 4.7.

Javier Baez, CHC (SS, $5100)

Baez is going to be a staple of my lines until he shows me he isn’t worth it. The kid is flat out amazing and tonight gets LHP Sean Newcomb and the Atlanta Braves. In 2018, Newcomb had a 4.47 xFIP along with a 33% HH Rate against RHB. Baez had a .384 wOBA and .269 ISO against LHP in 2018. Super small sample size but in 2 at bats this season against LHP he has a BB and HR. Newcomb also had a sub 12% BB Rate last year which bodes well for Baez due to his speed. I will have Baez in all formats tonight.

Yandy Diaz, TAM (1B/3B, $3500)

The top value on the slate according to our brand new A.C.E. Projection System, Yandy Diaz. Tampa gets RHP Chad Bettis tonight who had a .356 wOBA, 5.22 xFIP, and a 36% HH Rate against RHB last season. Diaz in 2018 for Cleveland had .370 wOBA against RHP and is having a good start to the 2019 season. In the Rays opening series against the Astros, Diaz had 2 Doubles, 1 HR, and a walk. At $3500 you aren’t asking for much.

Outfielders

Khris Davis, OAK (OF, $4400)

Davis is another guy that is going to be a staple of my lineups until DK realizes that he is worth a lot more than $4.4K. In 6 games this year he already has 4 HR and 8 RBI’s. Tonight he gets LHP David Price, not the easiest match up but Price has a little added pressure on his side tonight. The Red Sox starters were taxed in Seattle after only lasting for a total of 15 innings. That means the bullpen is gassed as well, not a good thing this early in the season. Give me a discounted Davis tonight in all formats.

Others: A.J. Pollock, George Springer, Kris Bryant, Teoscar Hernandez, Will Myers, Brandon Nimmo
