Opening Day Recap

Each day I will list the DK fantasy points from the players that were mentioned in the previous days article.
Justin Verlander, HOU ($11,000) = 32.1 FPts.
Javier Baez, CHI (SS, $4800) = 32 FPts.
Josh Bell, PIT (1B, $3700) = 5 FPts.
Kris Bryant, CHC (3B, $5400) = 20 FPts.
Mike Trout, LAA (OF, $5600) = 5 FPts.
Leonys Martin, CLE (OF, $3300) = 5 FPts.

Today we get an 8 game main slate on DraftKings due to many teams getting a day off to get settled into their homes after a long spring. I’ve never really understood it though, you get all pumped up for opening day to watch your team play in a game that matters and then you have to wait 2 days to watch them again. As a reminder these players are suggestions for DK cash games.

Pitcher

Joey Lucchesi, SDP ($7900)

Everyone is going to play either Gerrit Cole or German Marquez or maybe both tonight in cash. The problem is, it leaves you with little salary for your bats. The way I’m going to go is play one of them and get Lucchesi in as my SP2. Lucchesi enters tonight with the 3rd lowest IRTA (3.32) on the slate against the Giants. He had a 26.5% K Rate in 2018 along with a 3.45 xFIP. Lucchesi is a ground ball pitcher with a 44.7% GB rate last season. Also the Giants were top 5 in K% last season striking out at a 24% rate. According to the A.C.E. Projection System Lucchesi is our third highest rated pitcher on the slate.

Infielders

Albert Pujols, LAA (1B, $3400)

The Angels enter tonight with the highest IRT on the slate at 4.44, and face RHP Marco Estrada. Pujols is old, I get that, but after some convincing from my team I agree he is a great value tonight. Estrada has a .398 wOBA, 6.12 xFIP, 33% HH Rate, .584 SLUG%, and a .366 OBP against RHB. That is music to the ears of the LAA RHB tonight. I might have 2-3 Angles in my main cash line tonight.

Jurickson Profar, OAK (1B/2B, $3800)

Staying in the same game the A’s have a 4.06 IRT and face RHP Matt Harvey who supported a .341 wOBA, 4.53 xFIP, and a 43.2% HH Rate against LHB last season. Profar should bat third tonight and last season with the Rangers he had a .341 wOBA to go along with a .216 ISO. Another good value for the price tonight in a plus match up.

Justin Turner, LAD (3B, $4200)

If you are looking to spend up on an infielder, Turner gets to face LHP Robbie Ray tonight who gave up a 46.4% HH Rate to RHB last season. I’m not sure if I will get to Turner but I will try as he had a .433 wOBA, .244 ISO, and a 51% HH Rate against LHP in 2018. According to our new A.C.E. Projections he has the 2nd highest Floor Rating for 3B on the slate which is what we like to look for in a solid cash play. Don’t sleep on the Dodgers tonight.

Outfielders

Domingo Santana, SEA (OF, $3900)

It’s not a lot to go off of, it’s 2 games more than most teams in the majors right now, but in 13 PA’s this season against RHP Santana is red hot. He is slashing a .470 wOBA and a .538 ISO, again its not a lot of data to go off of but Seattle is off to a good start this year after beating down Chris Sale last night. Santana should be in the top 4 of the order tonight against RHP Nathan Eovaldi and the Boston Red Sox. This might be more of a tournament play than a cash play but I don’t have a problem with him being in your cash lineups tonight.

Mike Trout, LAA (OF, $5700)

Welcome to Mike Trout chalk night. Trout is by far the top rated player on the slate not only because he is the best player in the world but also because he is going against RHP Marco Estrada. Like I said when I was talking about Pujols, Estrada is music to a RHB ears. A .456 wOBA, .335 ISO, and 46% HH Rate against RHP for Trout is just icing on the cake. Don’t try to get cute tonight, just plug Trout in and go from there.
