Round the Bases (DraftKings MLB Picks) | 04/10/19

Where do I start about last night? How about it was brutal and somehow I still almost cashed. Jacob DeGrom got blasted by the Twins, Marco had another solid outing but I couldn’t get him in my line due to the tag on DeGrom. The Rockies, for the most part, got shutdown by Max Fried. The A.C.E. Projection System had Degrom ranked as the seventh pitcher on the slate and Fried the second, that should be enough for you to give us a try. Make sure to join us in chat as we fully break down the slate and the other MLB analysts, including myself list our core plays for both cash games and tournaments. Check out our new A.C.E. Projection System as well to help with building your winning lineups. You can also follow and DM me on twitter @DRockDFS. Want to join us but not sure if you want to pay a monthly sub fee yet? 04/09/19 Recap

  • Marco Gonzales, SEA ($7600) = 18.70 FPts.
  • Christian Walker, ARI (1B, $4200) = 5 FPts.
  • Trevor Story, COL (SS, $5100) = 2 FPts.
  • Adam Jones, ARI (OF, $4000) = 5 FPts.
  • Domingo Santana, SEA (OF, $4100) = 6 FPts.

The best thing about baseball is when you have a bad day it all gets reset the next day. So tonight we have a 9 game slate and Coors is not on it. Pitching might be a little tricky tonight and with a mess of weather in the Chicago area, the Cubs/Pirats game is the only one with rain/cold threats.

Pitcher

Brandon Woodruff, MIL ($8300)

Pitching is a hard spot to figure out tonight with multiple guys worth playing but at the same time all with tough match-ups. Brandon Woodruff and the Brewers take on the Angels who might be without the best player in the world, Mike Trout. In Woodruffs first 2 starts this season he struck out 13 batters in 9 IP. He has the third lowest IRTA on the slate of 3.9 and gets a big park upgrade for pitching. If Trout plays this will become a gpp play for me but if he sits I don’t mind using him in cash tonight. Right now he is middle of the pack in our TruV ratings but if Trout sits I expect that rating to jump quite a bit.

Infielders

Whit Merrifield, KC (2B/OF, $4500)

Merrifield tied George Brett’s franchise record of 30 straight games with a hit last night against Seattle. When we talk cash plays we are looking for a solid floor and it don’t get much more safer than Merrifield’s floor. The Royals have a 4.3 IRT tonight as they take on LHP Yusei Kikuchi and the Seattle Mariners. Over Whit’s last 30 AB’s against LHP he has a .395 wOBA and an excellent 157 WRC+ with a 49% HH Rate. The A.C.E. Projection System is also giving him an 11% HH Boost tonight. Not only will he get on base but once he is on he is a threat to steal with 82 SB since the start of the 2017 season.

Jorge Polanco, MIN (SS, $3800)

Minnesota comes into tonight with the lowest IRT on the slate of 3.1 and I am not buying into it. RHP Noah Syndergaard can have elite stuff but he hasn’t shown it in his first two starts this season. He has allowed 6 ER over his first two games and last season against LHB had an average xFIP. Polanco should be hitting second tonight and is slashing a .516 wOBA, .405 ISO, elite 242 WRC+ and on top of all that gets an 17.7% HH Boost tonight. Under $4K I’m willing to go there in cash and gpp tonight.

Others: C. Seager, W. Ramos, R. Cano, P. Alonso, E. Andrus

Outfielders

Brandon Nimmo, NYM (OF, $3400)

The Mets have game 2 against the Twins and RHP Jake Odorizzi, who got shelled in his last start against Philly. The Mets are not on the same level as Philly but dating back to last season Odorizzi has a 5.04 xFIP against LHB. Nimmo is dirt cheap tonight and a lock for me in cash. He most likely will be leading off and dating back to last season he has a .399 wOBA, .242 ISO, great 157 WRC+, and a 37% HH Rate. Some will say he is cold so they won’t want to play him but over his last 30 AB’s he has a 40% HH Rate.

Stephen Piscotty, OAK (OF, $4000)

Oakland has the highest IRT on the slate tonight at 5.8 runs and will face RHP Dan Straily and the O’s. Dating back to last season Straily has a 4.99 xFIP and a 44.4% HH Rate against RHB. The thing that really intrigues me is Piscotty has a 48% HH Rate over his last 30 AB’s against RHP and dating back to last season he has a 46% HH Rate against RHP.
