Yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag as my early game picks absolutely crushed, but the late slate didn’t fare as well. Tonight we get one of the shortest slates of the year, with just 3 games to choose from. Given the limited options, I suggest limiting your bankroll to GPP only as Draftkings daily NBA cash games lineups will likely all be incredibly similar. For this reason, Donatas Motiejunas headlines today’s article as a terrific value coming off his first action of the season.
Late news will almost certainly affect the top plays of the night. I write these articles up the night before the action, so injury news does impact my picks each night. Motiejunas’ revenge | Draftkings Daily NBA Monday January 9th, 2017
Donatas Motiejunas – New Orleans Pelicans ($3000)
Motiejunas recently signed a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, and while we were unsure how much usage he would see it didn’t take much time for his new team to throw him into the action. In his first game of eligibility, Motiejunas played 20 minutes, knocking down 4-5 shots for 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (25.75 fantasy points). Tonight Motiejunas will take on the New York Knicks who rank 2nd to last against opposing centers in fantasy points allowed. At just $3000 I think Motiejunas has the most upside of any punt available, and given the 3 game slate he makes the most sense to help you fit in guys like Westbrook to your lineups.
Other Options: Andrew Bogut, Robin Lopez, Joakim Noah
Jrue Holiday – New Orleans Pelicans ($6600)
Russell Westbrook will obviously be the top pick at PG once again, especially with just a 3 game slate. But most of my readers don’t come here to read about the studs everyone already knows about. The next best option in my mind is Jrue Holiday at just $6600. In his lone matchup with the Knicks this season Jrue played 35 minutes while posting 40.5 fantasy points. Given the uptempo nature and complete lack of defense in this game I’d expect Holiday to clear 35 fantasy points once again this evening.
Other Options: Russell Westbrook, Derrick Rose, Deron Williams
Dwyane Wade – Chicago Bulls ($6200)
Things were a bit rocky for Dwyane Wade recently as he dealt with migraines over the past week, but he appears to be back on track after playing 39 minutes against the Raptors on the 7th. At home this season Wade is averaging 30 MPG and 33.8 FPPG which is more than adequate for our needs on a short 3 game slate. I’ll likely be locking Wade in at the SG spot as I trust him to produce at least 30 fantasy points any time he is healthy.
Other Options: Jimmy Butler, Victor Oladipo, Tyreke Evans, E’Twaun Moore, Zach Lavine
Carmelo Anthony – New York Knicks ($7200)
Small forward is tough tonight. I just can’t bring myself to pay $9200 for Jimmy Butler given his rather inconsistent production this season, and Melo still strikes me as too cheap at just 7200. The only real issue with his price is the shoulder injury that Melo has been playing through recently. The upside there is that he reported it Friday, after a game in which he scored 26 real points en route to 53 fantasy points. His next game was a bit of a dud with just 27.5 fantasy points, but with the Pelicans and their lack of D on tap I think Melo gets back on track tonight. Look for 35+ fantasy points once again from Anthony as long as that shoulder isn’t bothering him too much.
Other Options: Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins, Harrison Barnes, Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott
Dirk Nowitzki – Dallas Mavericks ($5200)
I’m happy to see Dirk has returned to nearly 30 minutes per game! Over his last 2 contests, Dirk has played 28 and 30 minutes, and he should be in for a similar workload in tonight’s matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. On the road this season Dirk is averaging over a fantasy point per minute (24.8 FPPG in 24.5 MPG), so in 30 minutes he should be able to produce at least 25 fantasy points with the upside for a whole lot more if he can start raining 3’s like we know Dirk can! Even given his age, 5200 is far too cheap for a player of Dirk’s caliber, and he will be locked into my lineup tonight unless news of a minutes restriction surfaces.
Other Options: Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis, Gorgui Dieng, Kristaps Porzingis

If you’re wondering about the title, I grew up in Southern California where Knott’s Berry Farm has a popular roller coaster known as Montezooma’s Revenge. I also found out that Montezuma’s revenge is known as traveler’s diarrhea which is an intestinal disorder that strikes tourists, particularly to Mexico
