Karl-Anthony Towns | Yahoo NBA DFS 1/11

If you played the FTA+ Yahoo opto last night, you crushed! I made a last minute swap taking out Smart/Aminu for Bazemore/Taj and it crushed my line up alongside Doug McNoBuckets. Hopefully today we can get back to our winnings ways. We have a smaller 6 game slate but it is filled with some quality plays in my opinion. I really want exposure to the HOU/MIN game, as Zach LaVine is out and HOU is on a b2b. Last time these teams played the game stayed close and I expect that to happen again tonight. Nemanja Bjelica will be a must play for me if he starts. Karl-Anthony Towns is my favorite play of the day.

Karl-Anthony Towns | Yahoo NBA DFS 1/11

Centers

Karl-Anthony Towns ($43) – Anyone who regularly reads my articles knows that I love KAT. Anytime Karl is at home, in a good matchup, I target him. He averages 8 more fpts at home and tonight he faces the Rockets who are on a back end of a B2B on the road. The spread is only -3.5 and the last time these teams met in MIN, Karl finished with 63 Yahoo fpts. He is my favorite stud on this slate, and I think he is a better point per dollar play than Harden (meaning if you’re trying to get both in your lineup and can’t, go down on Harden, not Karl!).

Other options: Joel Embiid, Mason Plumlee, Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, Montrezl Harrell, Nerlens Noel.

Point Guards

Ricky Rubio ($18) – The first play from the HOU/MIN game that piques me interest in Ricky Rubio. Per FantasyLabs, Rubio sees a +2.4 bump in usage and a + 4.4 dk +/- differential. The player who actually benefits the most without LaVine is Andrew Wiggins (7.4 bump in usage, 8.5 dk +/-). Rubio benefits the second most sans LaVine. At $18, Rubio is a nice cheap option to get exposure to this game. Patrick Beverely is a good defender but in their last matchup with LaVine playing, Rubio still managed to get 32.6 Yahoo fpts. I also really like TJ McConnell ($14), and he would be my cash game PG on this slate.

Other options: Mike Conley, Damian Lillard, DJ Augustin

Shooting Guards

James Harden ($61) – I normally don’t write up James Harden as he’s always in play (I didn’t write him up yesterday but I played him) but today he’s by far and away my favorite SG. He’s had back to back 40 pt triple doubles and is solid on B2Bs. My goal tonight is to fit Harden and KAT into my lineup and they are my two main building blocks. I’ll also be going back to the well with Marcus Smart ($18). I wrote him up yesterday and he crushed (and I swapped him out at the last minute…). I won’t make the same mistake tonight.

Other options: Bradley Beal, Tony Allen.

Small Forwards

Aaron Gordon ($19) – This play is risky but since we’re on Yahoo we still have late swap. If we get news that Payton and Ibaka are out, Gordon becomes a must play for me. With Payton and Ibaka off the court, Gordon’s usage jumps up by 5 (and DJ Augustin’s goes up by 6). If they both end up suiting up, you need a pivot ready (looking at Moe Harkless currently). Outside of his last game, Gordon has scored over 24.7 Yahoo fpts every game in 2017. Basically I see my options at SF as either paying $32 for Andrew Wiggins, or paying down and going with Gordon, Covington, or Harkless. I’m also slightly enticed by Dario Saric at $11 but he is more of a GPP play that has 25-30 pt upside in my opinion.

Power Forwards

Nemanja Bjelica ($10) – The only time Zach LaVine sat out this year, Thibs slid Wiggins to the 2 and started Bjelica at the 3. Bjelica exploded for 47.6 fpts and played 40 minutes! If we get news that he is starting today, he will be a must play at the minimum price on Yahoo. There isn’t a lot of safe value yet today, so I’m really hoping we get news that he’s starting and it isn’t Shabazz Muhammad. If Shabazz starts, I don’t think I’ll end up playing any of the $10 Timberwolves.

Other options: Kevin Love (overpriced IMO, would rather have KAT for $3 more), Al-Farouq Aminu (underpriced), Ryan Anderson, JaMychal Green.
