Last night was really something else. My cash game lock James Johnson was sick and unable to play, which really threw the whole lineup into disarray. Willie Reed went absolutely NUTS in JJ’s absence, which is something to keep an eye on tonight. There are a number of fantastic cash plays available tonight, but right now Greg Monroe is catching my eye with a juicy matchup against the Knicks on tap.

Greg Monroe highlights Draftkings Daily NBA picks | 1/4/17
Greg Monroe – Milwaukee Bucks ($4800)
I’ve really never doubted Greg Monroe or his talent. The dude was a beast with the Pistons averaging 15+ PPG and 9+ RPG four straight years before landing in Milwaukee. But then along comes Jason Kidd who decides Miles Plumlee is the better option, and Greg Monroe is suddenly a bench player. Its always been a head-scratcher for me, as the Bucks show a ton of promise, and it seems like Giannis, Jabari and Monroe make for an incredible core. But what do I know… I’m just a guy behind a computer.
From a fantasy perspective, Greg Monroe is still a viable point per minute producer. On the season, whether home or away, Monroe averages at least 1 fantasy point per minute. In just 20 minutes per game on the road, Monroe is averaging 23.5 fantasy points! Tonight he gets to face the New York Knicks who allow the 2nd most FPPG to opposing centers. Over his last 4 games, Greg Monroe has posted 30.25, 39.5, 9.25 (WTF?) and 34.25 fantasy points. As long as Jason Kidd doesn’t throw a wrench in our plans, Greg should be good for at least another 30 fantasy points in this plus matchup.
Other Options: Spencer Hawes, Nikola Vucevic, Joakim Noah, Serge Ibaka
Michael Carter-Williams – Chicago Bulls ($4500)
Most nights I am overwhelmed with options at point guard, but tonight is tougher as many of the top plays are highly priced. If Ty Lawson is out, Darren Collison is an absolute MUST play, so please keep that in mind. Assuming Lawson plays, I’ll pivot to MCW at the same price point. With Rondo in the doghouse MCW has started the last 2 games, playing 25 and then 31 minutes. While many will be quick to point out the poor game against MIL, that was a 20 point blowout, so MCW missed out on some of those vital 4th quarter minutes. His price tag is still far too low as the starter for the Bulls, and I think Michael Carter-Williams will be at least 40% owned in cash games tonight.
Other Options: Darren Collison, Giannis Atentokounmpo, Kemba Walker, Malcolm Brogdon, CJ McCollum, Raymond Felton
Victor Oladipo – Oklahoma City Thunder ($5500)
As with most nights, I will probably be going back and forth on shooting guard multiple times leading up to tip off. Oladipo has slowly been working his way back from injury as he played 29 minutes, and then 35 minutes in his last 2 contests. We should expect Victor to once again see 35+ tonight on the road in Charlotte against the Hornets. So far this year, Dipo has been averaging 27.4 FPPG in 33.1 minutes on the road. The Charlotte Hornets are susceptible to shooting guards, as they allow the 5th most FPPG to the position, just behind the Brooklyn Nets! If Oladipo just hits his average tonight that will be 5x value, but given the Hornets problems defending shooting guards, and concentration on Westbrook, I expect Victor to produce 30+ fantasy points once again.
Other Options: Klay Thompson, Allen Crabbe, Jimmy Butler, Jodie Meeks
Carmelo Anthony – New York Knicks ($7100)
Melo is averaging 39.4 FPPG at home this season. Kristaps Porzingis is expected to be out. The Bucks allow the 3rd most FPPG to opposing small forwards. Why hasn’t Carmelo’s price tag gone up?!? 7100 is far too cheap given the circumstances, as Melo should play 35+ minutes while attempting around 20 field goals. Lock in Carmelo as one of the top cash plays of the night.
Other Options: Jabari Parker, Jimmy Butler, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Jeremy Lamb
Draymond Green – Golden State Warriors ($7500)
Another guy with a far too cheap price tag, Draymond Green is averaging 41.7 FPPG at home this season. In 2 matchups with the Blazers, despite playing just 29.2 minutes per game, Dray has averaged 40.3 fantasy points! If Portland can somehow keep this one close, we could be seeing a 50+ pt game from Dray, and for those who worry about Aminu’s defense slowing him down, most of Green’s production comes from rebounding and assists, so I wouldn’t worry too much. $7500 is ideal, take Draymond tonight.
Other Options: Al-Farouq Aminu, Frank Kaminsky, Demarcus Cousins, Paul Millsap, Kevin Love, Serge Ibaka, James Johnson
