FanDuel DFS NHL – Sunday 3/17/19

Tonight’s slate presents four matchups; Pittsburgh, Florida and Edmonton are skating in the second half of back-to-back sets.

NOTE: The 5:00pm EST DraftKings slate will be discussed in the FTA+ DFS NHL discord chat.

TONIGHT’S SCHEDULE
VAN @ DAL – 7:00pm EST
PHI @ PIT – 7:30pm EST
FLA @ ANA – 9:00pm EST
EDM @ VGK – 10:00pm EST

LAST NIGHT’S RESULTS: Auston Matthews failed to extend his goal streak but tallied an assist and nine shots on goal, good for 22.9 FanDuel fantasy points. Nikita Kucherov didn’t have a great game but still came away with his 116th and 117th points of the season, notching two assists and two shots for 19.2 FP. Shea Weber had a relatively quiet (and disappointing) night considering the Canadiens fired 48 shots on goal at Corey Crawford, who stopped all of them. Weber managed just four shots and a block for 8 FP (though he had decent ownership). My favorite value option on the slate was Brendan Perlini, who came through with another goal and 15.2 FP. Max Veronneau also picked up an assist, two shots and a block for 12.8 FP. In net, my GPP play was Crawford, whose 48-save shutout was good for 58.4 FP. My top cash goalie plays on the night were Darcy Kuemper (5.6 FP), Jaroslav Halak (27.2 FP) and Curtis McElhinney (32 FP). Some of my favorite stacks were BOS 1 (2G, 2A, 10SH), CHI 2 (1G, 3A, 3SH), TBL 2 (1G, 3A, 4SH), CAR 1 (1G, 2A, 6SH) and TOR 2 (0G, 2A, 13 SH).

Last night’s FD Cash core: Matthews, Kucherov, Weber combined for 50.1 FP.
The stats below are from cash and GPP.

Center

Sidney Crosby ($9,300) has been held off the scoresheet twice in his last five games, including yesterday against St. Louis. However, he has eight goals and 19 points in his last 11 games, including the outdoor game against the Flyers in which he scored a goal and an assist. Crosby has very strong career numbers against Philadelphia, with 99 points in 66 career regular-season games against his cross-state rival, and he has three goals and six points in three games against the Flyers this season. Though tonight’s game is a must-win for Philly, it’ll be tough to shut down Crosby, who should earn at least one point in tonight’s matchup.

Additional options will be discussed in chat.

Also consider: Connor McDavid ($9,100), Aleksander Barkov ($8,000), Tyler Seguin ($7,900), Sean Couturier ($7,500), Ryan Getzlaf ($6,100), Paul Stastny ($5,400), Nolan Patrick ($4,900), Scott Laughton ($3,900)

Winger

Jake Voracek ($7,800) has points in six straight games, collecting four goals and 12 points in that stretch. He skates on Philadelphia’s first line, though the Flyers have changed up lines quite a bit in recent games, so he’ll likely take shifts with multiple lines tonight. Voracek is averaging 13.5 fantasy points per game this season but has three goals and six points in three games against the Penguins this season, though three of those points came in the outdoor game in late February.

Additional elite and mid-range winger options will be discussed in chat.

Roope Hintz ($4,300) has goals in three straight games, scoring four goals on 11 shots and adding three blocks in that stretch. He skates on Dallas’ top line and top power-play unit and has a favorable matchup on home ice against the Canucks.

Also consider: Leon Draisaitl ($8,400), Jake Guentzel ($8,000), Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,400), Mark Stone ($7,300), Alexander Radulov ($6,700), Mike Hoffman ($6,600), Max Pacioretty ($6,300), Reilly Smith ($5,700), Jared McCann ($5,000), Oskar Lindblom ($4,900), Corey Perry ($4,600)

Defense

There are several mid-range options on the back end tonight, though there are some solid value options as well. Alex Edler ($4,800) continues to be a safe floor play, earning at least 8 fantasy points in all six games since returning to Vancouver’s lineup. He skates on the top power-play unit and has put up 18 shots and 26 blocks in his last six games, good for an average of 7.3 shots+blocks per game.

Both Shea Theodore ($4,900) and Nate Schmidt ($4,700) offer upside at home against the Oilers, who will be skating in the second half of a back-to-back. Both defensemen skate on the power play and offer decent peripheral stat coverage. Theodore has one goal and six points as well as 28 shots and five blocks in his last seven games, while Schmidt has two goals and five points along with 24 shots and 21 blocks in his last eight games.

There’s also Justin Schultz ($5,000), who has been somewhat hit or miss for Pittsburgh but who could have decent ownership in FanDuel cash contests. He skates on Pittsburgh’s top power-play unit.

Value options will be discussed in chat.

Also consider: Keith Yandle ($5,700), Aaron Ekblad ($5,300), Oscar Klefbom ($4,600), Mike Matheson ($4,100), Colin Miller ($4,000), Kris Russel ($3,900), Matt Benning ($3,800), MacKenzie Weegar ($3,700), Andrej Sekera ($3,500), Robert Hagg ($3,500)
