Week 4 Quarterback (QB) Rankings and Analysis

DrewBrees Disgruntled by poor quarterback play in week 3?  Don’t worry, you aren’t alone as 17 quarterbacks scored under 16 fantasy points last weeks.  Top names were held to single digits (E. Manning/ C. Kaepernick) while relative unknowns and unproven fantasy commodities scored over 20 fantasy points (G. Smith/ C. Ponder/ J. Locker).  It’s enough to make a fantasy manager go crazy, and when you see this week’s rankings you will probably think the world truly has gone nuts, but that is the world we live in, and fantasy football is a crazy game… so lets get to those ranks and analysis.

QB’s on a bye week are listed at the bottom of the rankings.  Average Fantasy PPG is for standard scoring leagues.

Week 4 Quarterback (QB) Projections, Rankings, and Analysis

Rank Player Team Analysis AVG PPG Week 4
1 Peyton Manning DEN Should be another shootout with the Eagles, with both offenses going uptempo.  Manning is a must start 33.13 PHI
2 Drew Brees NO Brees finally got on track in week 3, obvious must start 21.71 MIA
3 Michael Vick PHI Vick is still 2nd in QB scoring in standard leagues.  Keep him active 25.26 @DEN
4 Andrew Luck IND Jacksonville was just picked apart by Russell Wilson and Tarvaris Jackson.  Luck should have a field day 19.51 @JAC
5 Matt Ryan ATL New England still gives up plenty of yards through the air 19.19 NE
6 Matthew Stafford DET QB for the most pass happy team in the NFL. 19.60 CHI
7 Tony Romo DAL Romo has been consistent enough to now be ranked in the top 10 against a middling San Diego defense 17.01 @SD
8 Tom Brady NE He hasn’t been great, but the Patriots offense showed signs of life in week 3, and the other options haven’t been performing much better.  Plus, Atlanta is in the bottom 5 in terms of passing defense 13.94 @ATL
9 Philip Rivers SD Yep.  That Philip Rivers.  Tough week 3, but the Dallas matchup looks decent on paper, and the Chargers have no running game 21.31 DAL
10 Russell Wilson SEA The Texans are a much tougher matchup than the Jaguars.  Wilson is a fringe top 10 option 15.99 @HOU
11 Jay Cutler CHI New look Bears offense has been solid.  Cutler even discovered other options on his offense not named Brandon Marshall! 15.77 @DET
12 Robert Griffin III WAS RG3 is still averaging nearly 20 fantasy points per game.  Not the same mobile QB from a year ago means owners have to rely on him to get it done through the air.. a dicey proposition 18.40 @OAK
13 Sam Bradford STL Bradford’s been great, but that San Francisco defense is pretty great too 20.08 SF
14 Colin Kaepernick SF What happened to the read option??? At least the Rams defense has been giving it up like a $2 hooker so far… 13.49 @STL
15 Alex Smith KC 18.05 NYG
16 Ryan Tannehill MIA 14.06 @NO
17 Matt Schaub HOU 16.51 SEA
18 Andy Dalton CIN 15.13 @CLE
19 Terrelle Pryor OAK Keep hearing reports that he doesn’t remember much about the loss to the Broncos in week 3…this concussion could be his undoing 16.25 WSH
20 Ben Roethlisberger PIT 12.41 @MIN
21 Eli Manning NYG 14.48 @KC
22 Geno Smith NYJ 14.61 @TEN
23 E.J. Manuel BUF 17.05 BAL
24 Brian Hoyer CLE 18.64 CIN
25 Jake Locker TEN 16.33 NYJ
26 Joe Flacco BAL 12.79 @BUF
27 Christian Ponder MIN Rib Injury, we could see Matt Cassel in week 4 13.75 PIT
28 Carson Palmer ARI 10.76 @TB
29 Mike Glennon TB Announced as the starter over Josh Freeman.  Tendency to throw picks, but should still see plenty of action throwing the ball 0.00 ARI
30 Blaine Gabbert JAC 2.44 IND
BYE Cam Newton CAR 19.63 BYE
BYE Aaron Rodgers GB 23.89 BYE

There are obviously a number of question marks this week. If you are a manager who isn’t sure… should I start Tom Brady, Eli Manning or Alex Smith in week 4? Feel free to leave a comment below for my take on the situation, or join the fantasy discussion in our forums.
