If Fantasy Football gave negative points for drops, we wouldn’t be writing this article. Stephen Hill should get plenty of them, but he should have plenty of big plays. He runs a 4.30 40 yard dash and “fell”  to the second round in the 2012 NFL draft. Unfortunately, it was to the run-heavy Jets. This caused a lot of Fantasy Football owners to write him off. Don’t. Hill has incredible physical skills that could translate in a big way to the NFL game. Were not saying to suddenly pick him up and start him, but he should definitely be watched or stashed on your bench in case he breaks out. Not even through three quarters, Hill has 5 catches for 89 yards and 2 TDs. For a guy who came into the league as a high-upside WR he could be a real commodity for the rest of the year. Santonio Holmes will likely always be the Jets #1 WR in the eyes of the defense, and should draw most of the coverage.

You may ask, who does he compare to? When I watch him he reminds me a lot of Mike Wallace of the Pittsburgh Steelers. A deep threat who is used all around the field. The Jets are throwing a lot to him on slants and over the top on post routes. Yes, he’s a bit “raw” but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fantasy production like that. Desean Jackson could still be considered “raw”, but puts up solid Fantasy stats due to his big play ability. As we mentioned in our Kevin Ogletree article, every year there is a Wide Receiver who comes out of nowhere and becomes a WR1. Do I think that Hill is that? No, but there’s a chance when you have that kind of physical ability. I’m not looking at this through rose-colored glasses. Hill probably won’t reach his full potential. The reason why you want to pick him up is because he has potential. Why not drop a guy like Lance Moore who has virtually no upside? Your probably never going to start him. In all likelyhood, this is just a sign of things to come for Hill, but give him a chance and don’t count him out because of his QB.

Great article. He almost reminds me of the relationship Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garçon had last year. With Santonio Holmes attracting coverage like a refrigerator magnet, I think it’ll be interesting to see if Hill can continue to produce in clutch situations. If so, I’d expect Keller and Holmes to see a downturn in targets and Hill to be the primary benefactor. The Jets continue to need that 2nd receiver. I think Hill is our guy.
