Pitching Planner for the week ahead – Two start pitchers for week 6

Lets get those pitching rotations set for the week ahead shall we?  This article will deal with the two start pitchers for week 6 of fantasy baseball 2013.  There are a number of solid waiver wire and streamer options to be found in these rankings, so let’s jump right in!

As is my weekly tradition, I will update these projections on Saturday (May 11th, 2013) after all the injuries/ rainouts have been assessed which drastically alters the projected pitchers.

    How are the players ranked?

For the top tier (tier 1) I try to include the best arms in the game that can help teams in all pitching categories.

The tier 2 guys should be started in all leagues, but might be lacking production in one department or another.

Tier 3 are the up and comers, and the middling options that can be given a look off the waiver wire.  This is the gambling department.

Tier 4 are the two start pitchers for truly desparate owners.  Only recommended in the deepest of leagues

Tier 5 – Don’t touch with a 10 foot pole.  This guys have major problems in all areas and should not be considered unless you play in an AL or NL only league.

News and notes – Pitching planner – 2 start pitchers

One of the few things to pay attention to, is the Yankees and Indians playing a doubleheader on May 13th.  The starters haven’t been announced yet for both games, and while the clubs sometimes call up an arm from Triple-A to make the start, I have to work with the info available, which at the time of this article’s printing, the regularly scheduled pitchers are being listed for that day/night doubleheader.  I believe that a triple-A arm will fill in, but we have to wait for Saturday before I update these rankings.

    A.J. Burnett – SP – Pittsburgh Pirates

I know one of the more popular comments will be A.J. Burnett, top tier, really?  But he has had such a dominating start to the season, it is time to start giving credit where it is due, and that strikeout rate is simply ridiculous.

Jordan Zimmermann – SP – Washington Nationals

Yes Jordan is off to an incredible start for the Nationals, and he clearly deserves to be started in all formats.  The only thing keeping him out of the top tier is the strikeout ratio.

Waiver Wire Grabs and streamer options for the week ahead

Most of my top waiver wire grabs for two starts are listed in the third tier.  Justin Grimm has been pitching very well for Texas while flying under the fantasy radar, and Hector Santiago of the White Sox is also expected to make two starts while experiencing similar success early in the season for the pale hose.
