Tony Romo

Week 10 - Everyone knows the story with Romo by now as he runs hot and cold.  He threw for just 1 TD in a losing effort against the undefeated Falcons in week 9, and the Cowboys face a division opponent in the Eagles coming up in week 10.  Romo is certainly a bubble QB for this game, and it will depend on who your options are as to whether you start Tony or not.  Our rankings have him as a low QB1/ high QB2 for week 10.

Week 9 - Romo and the Cowboys fell behind early in week 8, leading to exactly what you would expect, plenty of yards and interceptions.  Romo threw for 437 yards and 4 picks to go with his lone touchdown.  If the Cowboys keep losing it is conceivable that Romo could lose his job to Kyle Orton at some point this season.  For fantasy purposes, view Romo as a low end QB2 in all formats going forward.

Week 6 - Romo had a week off to get his head on straight, hopefully it did some good, but he faces a tough matchup against the Ravens in week 6, making him a QB2 for this week.

Week 4 - The lack of consistency struck again in week 3, as Tony Romo threw for 283 yards, 0 TD’s/ 1 INT against the much improved Bucs defense.  He has dropped out of our top 12 QB’s after averaging just 14.5 fantasy points per game threw his teams first 3 games.  Week 4 sees Romo facing a solid Bears defense, and we recommend if you have a better option this week, take it.  If Romo is the best QB option available in your lineup, you have to start him, but it shouldn’t be with any degree of confidence.

Week 3 - It sure would be nice of Tony Romo to play consistently one of these years, but after a big game against the Giants in week 1, Romo and the Cowboys completely sputtered out vs the Seahawks in week 2.  While Romo could end up posting strong numbers against the Bucs in week 3, he should only be considered a starter in deep formats until he starts proving himself more reliable on a weekly basis.

Week 2 – Tony Romo got off to a great start against the New York Giants in week 1, as he put up 24.48 fantasy points.  Now heading into a week 2 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, he is a borderline QB1.  The Seahawks were a top 10 defense in 2011, and figure to be just as good if not better in 2012.  Take a look at our rankings to decide whether or not Romo is a must-start for your fantasy team this week.

Week 1 - Romo and company get to open the season with a shootout vs the New York Giants and Eli Manning.  Last season the two teams met twice, and Romo managed 6 TD’s, 1 pick, and he average 305 yards per game.  Although he won’t qualify as a “must-start” every week, this matchup is favorable to both QB’s, and our advice to fantasy owners is to have Romo active against the Giants for the first week of the 2012 season.

Preseason Analysis

Tony Romo has become famous for a number of reasons, he qualifies for golf tournaments, dates women like Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood, and, oh yeah he is also the QB of the Dallas Cowboys.  We get the feeling that those items might rank that way in his personal life as well, even though he talks a big game it never materializes in a consistent manner on the football field.  He will have a 300 yard/ 3 TD performance, and follow that up with 225 yards/1 TD/ 2 INT performance.  Romo enters the 2012 season as a low QB1 in most formats, as he has the upside to throw for a ton of yards, but sometimes leaves owners scratching their heads.
