Week 6 - Fitzpatrick put up a dud in week 5, as he threw for just 126 yards, 0 TD’s and 1 INT against the elite San Fran defense. He is quickly falling down the QB ranks, and is now a low QB2 as the Bills figure to turn to their two headed running attack more and more going forward.
Week 5 - With the banged up Jackson and Spiller behind him in week 4, Fitzpatrick had to air the ball out plenty. His final state line was 22 for 39, 350 yards passing, 4 TD’s and 4 INT’s. He continues to be turnover prone, but that actually helps him have to throw the ball even more as his team gets into a hole early while giving up great field position. Fitz remains a TE2 heading into week 5 in all formats.
Week 4 - After a solid week 3 performance against the Cleveland Browns which saw Fitz throw 3 TD’s/ 0 INT, he is back in our good graces in the top 20 QB’s heading into week 4. Fitzpatrick gets to face a weak Patriots secondary which can be exploited, and in 2 QB formats, he is a recommended play for this matchup.
Week 2 – Fitzpatrick put up 17 fantasy points in week 1, as the Bills fell behind big, and kept airing it out to their receivers. That same scenario could repeat if Fitzpatrick keeps throwing picks this season, but going into this matchup he is not an advisable fantasy play.
Week 1 – The Bills start off 2012 against the New York Jets in what figures to be a low scoring defensive affair. Ryan Fitzpatrick shouldn’t be considered a viable starter, even in 2 QB formats he should be benched for this matchup.
Preseason Analysis
Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career season in 2011, and the Bills rewarded him for it with a nice new contact extension. Problem was, he didn’t finish the season nearly as strong as he started, and he managed to throw a whopping 23 INT’s. Couple that with just 24 TD passes, and the fact that the Bills didn’t really upgrade their wide receiving corps we don’t see much room for improvement heading into 2012, and recommend letting him hit waivers on draft day. The only bit of good news for Fitzpatrick? Vince Young will be his backup this season, and after his less than stellar performaces in Philadelphia, we don’t foresee any QB controversy heading into the year.
