Week 6 - Schaub continues to be one of the best game managers in football, as he threw for 209 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in week 5 against the Jets. He won’t be an elite QB by any stretch, but he is still a solid QB2 in all fantasy football leagues.
Week 5 - Schaub is reestablishing himself as one of the better backup QB’s in fantasy football. In Week 4 he didn’t throw much for yardage (202) but he did complete 2 TD’s to go with 0 INT’s. He remains a QB2 heading into week 5 in most formats.
Week 4 - Matt redeemed himself in week 3 with a terrific performance against the Denver Broncos which saw him complete 17 of 30 for 290 yards, 4 TD’s and 1 INT. He remains a low QB2 going forward, as the Texans will rely on their ground and pound attack, but he showed that when given the opportunity, he can complete the deep pass with the best in the league.
Week 2 – Looks like Schaub will be called on to be a game manager, in much the same style as Alex Smith in 2012. With 2 of the best RB’s in the game behind him, Schaub should be regarded as a QB2 in all formats going forward for 2012.
Week 1 - Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans open the 2012 season against Miami. The Dolphins had the 3rd best run defense in the NFL in 2011, but the 25th ranked passing defense. So, while the majority of fantasy owners will be looking for a big game from Arian Foster, there is an outside chance he will be shut down and the Texans will attack through the air for the season opener. With targets like Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels, Schaub still has plenty of offensive firepower, and he is a sneaky play in week 1.
Preseason Analysis
Matt Schaub missed the last 6 games of the 2011 season as he underwent surgery for a Linsfranc fracture in his foot. His rehabilitation has progressed on schedule and the QB has stated he has no doubt that he will be ready for the opening week of the football season. When healthy in 2009 and 2010 he was one of the more consistent options in the NFL at QB, and while he won’t be a member of the 5,000 yards passing club, he is a solid #1 QB in all formats heading into 2012 fantasy football.
