2 Start Pitchers – Week 12

Hard to believe that we are almost into week 12 of fantasy baseball 2013, but here we are, and once again the projected 2 start pitchers for the week ended up all discombobulated.  After exhaustively pouring over the notes, rotation changes, and injury updates from some of the top sites in fantasy baseball (MLB, CBS, Yahoo), I have compiled the confirmed two start pitchers for the week ahead. Keep in mind, this article is published on Saturday mornings, so there is still plenty that can occur between then and the start of the week.

Be sure to check out the news and notes section at the bottom of the article for some of the top sleeper names to target off the waiver wire in week 12.

News and notes – 2 start pitchers – fantasy baseball 2013

Top waiver wire SP to pickup in week 12

If you play in deep leagues, and are looking for a few sneaky options for the week ahead, here are a few of my sleepers for the week:

Alfredo Figaro – SP – Milwaukee Brewers – Time to start paying attention to what this young hurler is doing up there in Milwaukee, and with a juicy matchup against the Astros early in the week, Figaro could be a decent streamer option in 12 team or larger formats

Jacob Turner – SP – Miami Marlins – Another young prospect, Jacob Turner, has been turning heads in Miami with his miniscule 1.80 ERA through his first 20 IP this season.  Obviously, the wins will be hard to come by, but if you are looking for a pitcher to maintain a low ERA/WHIP this season, Turner is off to a very nice start and is an interesting name to keep on your radar.

The injury bug…

Clay Buchholz will be making a bid to return from injury in week 12, and he is currently being rumored for either Sunday (week 11), Monday, or Tuesday.  Only time will tell, and once there is an update, I will be sure to provide that information in these projections

Update - Buchholz has been officially scratched from his start Tuesday by the Red Sox.  Not sure whether it will be Alfredo Aceves or Rubby De La Rosa taking his spot

Based on the matchups, how would you rank the following guys: Leake, Strailey, Turner, Lyles? I had two spots on my bench to stream 2 of these guys and was gonna try to grab Leake and Strailey, but with Kinsler back off the DL, I can only grab one. Personally, I like Strailey, but Leake’s recent output can’t be ignored…

I’d probably stick with Leake, he has been surprisingly effective this year, and that Pirates matchup is a good one. For Straily I would be concerned about the game in Texas, I tend to avoid Arlington in the summer the same way I avoid Coors Field, the ball jumps out of that ballpark, and the Rangers still have a good offense.

Lyles has to face the Brewers, and will have shoddy run support as usual, and Turner has two road games with the same run support issues as Lyles

Going with Figaro and Turner! Thanks for updating this on Saturday, things have changed, I’m seeing a lot of teams not release their pitchers until the day of.
